Academic Speaking, Panels & Conferences

Speaking seems to be the most difficult skill to learn, yet it does not have to be. With support and practice, you can become a better speaker…

English conversation and academic speaking are very different. By understanding the difference between the two, you will be able to speak confidently with your peers at conferences and convey your ideas through academic presentations.

Examples of Informal vs. Strong Academic Language

Informal

“Thanks”

“See you”

“I wanna tell you…”

Academic

“Thank you very much”

“Good-bye”

“I want to tell you…”

Using the above, we can improve the way we communicate:

“I wanna tell you about my research.”

becomes…

“I want to explain my research.”

Building on lessons and feedback from me, you will be able to speak confidently through conferences and academic presentations. Both of these skills require different levels of English knowledge - all of which I can help you develop.

Academic Conference English

This skill is not as difficult to develop since you can follow notes. You just need to learn the correct vocabulary, sentence structure, and nonverbal communication skills.

Panel Discussion English

Probably the most difficult skill as it takes time to develop these skills and you need to rewrite / practice speaking many times. However, you can learn this at home by yourself with feedback from me.
